Saturday, Oct. 26 marks the 13th year that Maple Valley has participated in Make A Difference Day, the nation’s largest day of community service.

“It is so wonderful to see community members come together and tackle projects large or small, all in one day,” said Garden Manager Susan Goodell, one of the Arboretum’s representatives on the event committee.

In the past, the Rotary Club of Maple Valley and the City of Maple Valley have partnered to bring volunteers and projects together. The event usually kicks off with a free breakfast at the Greater Maple Valley Community Center.

Goodell is planning a number of Arboretum projects for MADD that will bring together about 100 volunteers.

“We encourage those who want to volunteer at the Arboretum to sign up through the MADD committee,” Goodell said. “Regular Arboretum volunteers who would like to help lead or assist with a project can email me at gardenmgr@lakewildernessarboretum.org.”

The Maple Valley’s Make A Difference Day committee has set up a Facebook page, search Maple Valley Make a Difference Day, where anyone can learn more about how to volunteer.

Enjoy the last free public docent tour of the year on Saturday, Oct. 19.
