Water discharge normal during sewer main construction

Expect temporary water discharge during construction, which is not to exceed 10,000 gallons per minute

Sewer main construction is well under way in Covington as part of the Soos Creek Water & Sewer District’s (District) regional plan to serve the Town Center. Residents may have noticed water spilling from a pipe at the corner of SE Wax Road and Covington Way SE. This is a dewatering discharge point and is intended to allow for the construction of the District’s new sewer main.

Because the depth of the new sewer main is below the groundwater level, there needs to be a way to keep the trench relatively dry. This is accomplished by installing dewatering wells that pump the water from the construction area to an approved discharge location. This discharge is permitted and approved by the City of Covington and Washington State Fish & Wildlife as part of the District’s construction.

Expect temporary water discharge during construction, which is not to exceed 10,000 gallons per minute.
