Water-damaged street in Covington closed

Part of 240th Street in Covington, between 192nd Place Southeast and 193rd Place Southeast – where a school bus carrying students became stuck in high water last week – has been closed by the city because of flood damage.

The closure will remain in effect until further notice, with updates coming when available, officials said Monday. They added that no other roads in the city are closed as a result of last week’s storms.

A substitute bus driver for the Tahoma School District missed the Road Closed signs on Jan. 8 and drove through the closure, according to district officials. A break in the pavement was covered by the water over the road and the bus got stuck as a result.

The Police Department reminded the public that when a city street or portion of a city street has been closed, any person disregarding such closure may be cited for a criminal misdemeanor.
