Garbage truck drivers represented by Teamsters Local 174 and Waste Management reported Tuesday night the two sides have reached agreement on a five-year contract.

Waste Management provides trash, recycling and yard waste services for King County including Maple Valley and Snohomish County.

The agreement ends a labor dispute that appeared to have stalled in early April. The drivers struck for two days April 21 and 22, but returned April 24 when the two sides agreed to return to the negotiation table.

According to a release from Waste Management the union members are expected to vote on the contract Sunday, May 2 at the union hall in Tukwilla.

The local settled a labor contract with Allied Waste Service, which is owned by Republic Services with corporate headquarters in Phoenix, Ariz. The contract between the union and Allied was ratified April 11.

Allied serves Black Diamond, Covington and a small area of Maple Valley.
