The Kent School Board has selected two finalists for the superintendent position.

The Kent School Board has selected two finalists for the superintendent position.

Community forums with the final candidates are scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon and 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 18 in the Administration Center Board Room, 12033 SE 256th Street, Kent.

Live streaming video of the community forums will be available on the district website.

Community members are asked to attend and provide feedback on the candidates.

The finalist are:

 

David Moyer

David Moyer is superintendent of Moline-Coal Valley School District in Moline, Ill. Moline-Coal Valley has a district enrollment of 7,500 students, 1,150 certificated and classified staff members and a $116 million budget.

In addition to serving in Moline-Coal Valley School District, Moyer has served in Burlington Area School District, Wisconsin, Community High School District 117, Illinois and McHenry High School District 156 in Illinois.

Moyer holds a bachelor’s degree in English and secondary education from the University of Wisconsin, and received his master’s degree in physical education and sports administration from Eastern Kentucky University. He earned a master’s degree in educational administration, superintendent’s endorsement, and doctorate in educational administration from Northern Illinois University.

 

Calvin J. Watts

Calvin Watts currently serves as assistant superintendent in Gwinnett County Public Schools, Suwanee, Ga. The district enrollment is 174,500 students, 15,600 certificated and classified staff members and a budget of $1.7 billion.

Watts has served in Seattle Public Schools, Atlanta Public Schools, Carrollton City Schools in Georgia and The Archdiocese of Atlanta.

Watts holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Howard University, and received his teaching certification at Western Washington University. His master’s degree in educational administration and supervision is from University of West Georgia, and he earned a doctorate in educational leadership from Argosy University in Atlanta.

The review and interview process of applicants took place between March 5-14 and was led by Ray and Associates Inc. of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Contracted by the board in November, Ray and Associates specializes in educational executive leadership candidate searches and recruitment for public schools, private schools and higher education institutions.

The final selection by the board will take place between March 19-25. The official announcement of a new superintendent is scheduled for the March 25 board meeting.
