Maple Valley resident Mike Rowe has set up a trust fund for his 12-year-old son who was injured after a tree fell on him while camping.

Zachery Rowe, who lives in Arizona with his mother, was camping with family members in a park July 25 when a tree fell on a tent he and his cousin were sleeping in.

His cousin was not injured. According to family members, Zach did not feel any pain as a result of the accident.  He was taken to Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital in California, where they discovered he had a crushed pelvis and serious damage to his right leg. Surgeons were forced to amputate his right leg because of the severity of the injury. He is expected to be in the hospital for another month.

“He is expected to make a full recovery but it’s a long road ahead,” his father wrote in an email interview. “His vitals are stable but he is still being sedated to make sure he is not in pain and comfortable. He has shown signs of awareness by opening his eyes and moving his hands. He still a few more surgeries but the serious ones are behind him.”

Greeting cards can be sent to Zach Rowe at  http://www.lpch.org/forPatientsVisitors/cards/index.jsp Anyone interested in donating to the fund can send questions to zmrtrust@gmail.com.
