Covington council vacancy
City of Covington Councilman Jim Scott announced he will retire from the council May 24.
The City Council will be accepting applications to fill the vacant seat through June 10. The council will conduct interviews June 14.
Covington residents can apply for the position by sending or dropping off a letter of interest to the City Council at City Hall.

Bear Metal finished 23rd
Tahoma High School’s Robotics Team, Bear Metal, placed 23 out of 600 at the final robotics competition. More than 20,000 students from 42 countries competed in St. Louis at the end of bApril. After a tough season when their robot was stolen, and then returned, the Bear Metal team was able to make it to the national competition.
There were 35 teams from the Pacific Northwest division at the beginning of the season but only 18 made it to nationals.
Car show at Kentlake
David Lewis returned to teach at Kentlake High School at 2005.
When Lewis attended Kentlake, he and a group of students created a car show fundraiser.
While teaching auto shop, Lewis still helps manage the car show.
This year the car show begins at 10 a.m. Saturday at Kentlake.
From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. there will be a Lincoln test drive event that will help raise funds for the high school.
Kiwanis fundraiser coming soon
The Kiwanis Club of Black Diamond and Maple Valley is having a fundraiser at Maple Valley Bar and Grill. Between 5 and 10 p.m. on May 24, 20 percent of the sales will be donated to the Kiwanis Club.
