Leading the way for the Bears in field events is senior Derek Eager. According to the Athletic.net Web site, Eager is ranked No. 1 in the nation throwing the 800-gram javelin. He pegged 218 feet, 7 inches at the Kent Invitational March 27, giving him the top distance in the country.

He is also top in the state in the discus with 181-6 reached at the Thomas Jefferson Jamboree March 13, the opening event of the season.

Eager has had his setbacks during his high school career. In February of 2009 he broke his leg during the regional wrestling tournament. That did not stop him from making the state track and field meet in May.

In 2009 he finished sixth in the state in the javelin reaching 198-06 and 10th in the discus at 147-05.

This year Eager is the favorite for the gold in both events.

On the track for Tahoma, Tate Latimer is the shining star posting the top time in the state in the 100-meter hurdles.

She stopped the clock at 14.84 in the 100 hurdles Saturday, the best time in the state, in the Arnie Young Invitational at Renton Memorial Stadium.

Latimer has won every hurdle event she has entered this season and she is a favorite choice to be standing at the top spot on the medal stand this year at state.

She has singed a letter of intent to run track for the University of Washington next year.

During the first South Puget Sound League, 4A North Division meets of the season, Tahoma lost to Kentwood on both the girls and boys side March 18. The boys lost 86-59 and the girls 89-61.

Against Kent-Meridian the Tahoma boys lost 84-52 and the girls won 96-45.

Against Auburn the Tahoma boys won 78-67 and the girls won 109-41.

The next league meet is at Kentlake 3 p.m. April 22.
