The Washington State Board of Education will hold a public hearing on proposed rules to implement SB 6552 and consider adopting them at the July 9 board meeting in Spokane, which will begin at 1 p.m.
According to a press release, SB 6552 authorizes the 24-credit graduation requirement framework developed by the board, which they say provides flexibility to school districts in meeting the instructional hour requirement, expands math and science course equivalencies for Career and Technical Education programs and eliminates the culminating project as a statewide graduation requirement.
The proposed rules address:
- Total instructional hour requirement.
- Elimination of culminating project requirement.
- State subject and credit requirements for high school graduation.
- District waiver from requirement on access to CTE course equivalencies.
- Minimum standards and certification form (private schools).
