Soggyfoot play contest coming to Maple Valley

The 2015 Soggyfoot Young Adult Ten-Minute Play Contest is the area's first regional competition for emerging playwrights

A playywriting competition for area youth is being offered in Maple Valley.

The 2015 Soggyfoot Young Adult Ten-Minute Play Contest is the area’s first regional competition for emerging playwrights, between the ages of 14-19, according to a press release from the community organization. The winner will be awarded “The Soggyfoot Young Adult Ten-Minute Play Prize” of a $150, publication into the 2015 “Soggyfoot Literary Journa”l and a staged reading. The stage reading will be held the evening of Feb. 28 at the Maple Valley Creative Arts Center.

Six 10 minute plays will be selected to create an evening of original works from local youth. These six plays and the first prize winner will be selected by the Performing Arts Committee of Maple Valley’s Creative Arts Council. The panel includes Margaret Landry (local playwright/ Soggyfoot Editor/ writing instructor), Ed Corrigan (local playwright/Little Eddie Productions) and Dr. Jessi Jumper (Vocalist, Mezzo-Soprano/ vocal coach).

Attendees will also give an “Audience Favorite” award. The votes will be tallied after all the staged readings have occurred. Any donations given at the door will be awarded to the playwright of the audience’s choosing.
