Covington city officials will host a public meeting at 7 p.m. at City Hall next Wednesday to reveal three potential designs for a new public park.

The city is planning the 30-acre park at the intersection of 180th Avenue Southeast and Southeast 240th Street.  Features such as multi-purpose sports fields (baseball, softball and soccer), walking, jogging and/or bike trails, play areas for children, restrooms, basketball and tennis courts, and picnic areas have been proposed.

A Seattle-based park design firm, MacLeod Reckord Landscape Architects, has been hired by the city as a consultant and will present three alternative designs. They include choices for layouts, the amounts and types of active recreation amenities and plans for wetland mitigation.

Based on public input, the city will develop a single preliminary design for further review and comment at another public meeting Nov. 19, officials said.

Funding for the project comes from a $700,000 state grant secured through the Legislature and $140,000 through King County.
