Community spirit and caring was in full swing Saturday outside the grocery stores at Covington and Maple Valley.

Members of the Covington Youth and Family Commission, council members for both cites, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and other volunteer took food and money donations as part of the Mayors’ Day of Concern for the Hungry in Maple Valley and Covington.

The donations will help fill the shelves of the Maple Valley Food Bank, which has seen a dramatic increase in requests since the economic downturn.
