At about 8 p.m. Jan. 20, Kent firefighters responded to the second carbon monoxide poisoning of the night on Kent’s Easthill. The two incidents were at separate apartment complexes and are not related.
Emergency units arrived at the second apartment complex located in the 11200 block of S.E. 258 Place and found a family of five complaining of dizziness, headache and nausea. The family told firefighters that they had been heating the house with a charcoal barbecue while the power had been out when they all started feeling ill. Firefighters treated the two adults and three teenagers at the scene then transported them to a local hospital for further evaluation.
Residents are reminded that they should never bring BBQs or generators into or near their home. Carbon monoxide (CO), a byproduct of these devices, can pose a danger to everyone in the home. CO is a clear and odorless gas that blocks the body’s ability to absorb oxygen. Symptoms include:
Headache
Nausea
Dizziness
Fatigue
