The final week of the regular 2012 legislative session Rep. Glenn Anderson, R-Fall City, hosted two student pages from the 5th Legislative District.
Juliana da Cruz and Shanna Hauser, both from Issaquah, served as legislative pages for the House of Representatives the week of March 5-8.
Sixteen-year-old Juliana is a tenth grade student at Issaquah High School. She is the daughter of Joan and Jose da Cruz.Fourteen-year-old Shanna is an eighth grade student at Chinook Middle School and is the daughter of Terri Hauser.
The page program offers students the opportunity to learn more about how the state Legislature operates and sponsor mock legislation. As part of their page duties, the young women delivered messages and documents to legislators in their offices and on the House floor. Their work also included climbing hundreds of stairs each day and navigating the many buildings on the Capitol campus.
Each week, students 14- to 16-years-old from across the state serve in the legislative page program. They must have a legislative member as a sponsor, as well as permission from their school and parents.
