Railroad repair expected to lead to traffic headaches in Covington | For The Reporter

Emergency repairs on Covington Way Southeast between Southeast Wax Road and 164th Place Southeast on Friday, June 20

Burlington Northern Sante Fe will be conducting emergency repairs to the railroad crossing on Covington Way Southeast between Southeast Wax Road and 164th Place Southeast on Friday, June 20.

According to a city press release, the repairs are necessary for the safety of the public and of trains. To conduct the emergency repairs, Covington Way Southeast will be closed at the railroad tracks from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. This closure is expected to have a major impact on traffic in Covington, which also serves as a major thoroughfare to other Southeast King County cities like Maple Valley and Black Diamond.

Southbound traffic will be detoured east along Southeast Wax Road. Northbound traffic will be detoured west along 164th Place Southeast. Flaggers will be on site to assist motorist during the closure, but drivers should expect lengthy back ups and delays.

The city strongly encourages drivers who commute this route to take alternate routes or avoid the area, if possible.
