Poker benefits ‘Shop With a Cop’ kids

Shop With a Cop, an annual holiday event for at-risk and less fortunate children that gives each of them $50 to go Christmas shopping with a police officer, will get a boost from a benefit poker tournament Nov. 7 at Greater Maple Valley Community Center.

Participants can buy tickets for $60 from a Maple Valley Rotary member or at the community center, Mt. Rainier Bank or Allstate Insurance. More information is available from Patti Jenson, one of the event’s organizers, at (425) 432-1912.

A poker “school” at 5 p.m. will be followed by the tournament at 6. Dinner is included.

In addition to proceeds from the poker event, Shop With a Cop can be supported with donations mailed to Shop with a Cop, in care of Allstate Insurance, 23868 SE. Kent-Kangley Road, Maple Valley, WA 98038. Checks should be made payable to Shop With a Cop.

The community center, King County Police Activities League, Rotary and the Wal-Mart store in Covington, where children will shop Dec. 13, are sponsors of Shop With a Cop. Children will be selected through school counselors and Kent Youth and Family Services.
