The City of Auburn and the Auburn Downtown Association are throwing a party to celebrate Auburn’s birthday, 4-8 p.m. June 14, at City Hall Plaza, located at 25 West Main Street.

There will be mobile food vendors, a beer garden featuring local craft beers, displays of Auburn’s history, a birthday cake and cupcake table, and performances by local musicians and poets.

ADA Executive Director Laura Westergard has asked Auburn’s two premier poetry organizations, Northwest Renaissance, Poets, Performers & Publishers, Inc., and Striped Water Poets, to curate Verse Auburn, a series of three 15-minute presentations of original poems about Auburn between four 45-minute band sets.

Auburn Poet laureate Richard Brugger and Northwest Renaissance president Marjorie Rommel urge working poets and wannabes to submit short poems that reflect any aspect of life in Auburn.
