The Covington City Council selected Steven Pand as this year’s Citizen of the Year and Krista Bates as the Honorary Citizen of Covington’s Citizen of the Year at a meeting on June 24.

Pand serves on the Covington Economic Development Council and has spent two years as chair of city’s Parks Commission. He is also chairman of the Economic Development Council’s branding committee.

Bates is a longtime community volunteer who has been involved in many community organizations and events, including the Covington Domestic Violence Task Force, Communities in Schools, Relay for Life, Maple Valley Food Bank and Emergency Services, the Covington Rotary, the Kiwanis Club of Covington, Tahoma School District’s Career and Technical Education Advisory Committee.

Both individuals will be honored at the July 8 council meeting, which starts at 7 p.m., and at the Covington Days Festival on Saturday, July 19 at 11:30 a.m.
