No injuries after dumptuck crashes into Maple Valley business

Four employees of the Maple Valley Eye Care Center were inside the building when the crash happened.

Early morning on St. Patrick’s Day, Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority were on the scene after a dumptruck crashed into the side of a Maple Valley building.

At 8:30 a.m. March 17, a medium-sized dumptruck was parked but still running at the Four Corners Square off of Maple Valley Black Diamond Road Southeast in Maple Valley with two passengers inside.

According to Puget Sound Fire, the vehicle “somehow started moving forward” and one of the people in the cab of the dumptruck meant to put their foot on the brake to stop the vehicle — but instead stepped on the accelerator. The vehicle then drove over a landscaped area of the parking lot and crashed into the Maple Valley Eye Care Center.

The Eye Care Center had not opened yet, but four employees were inside when the crash took place. Puget Sound Fire reports that there were no injuries.

“There was significant damage to the exterior wall because [the dumptruck] went all the way through,” said Pat Pollock of Puget Sound Fire. “It took out the support columns and part of the beam. There was also significant damage to the business.”

Puget Sound Fire’s Heavy Rescue team was able to add emergency shoring to safely remove the dumptruck from the building. Additional shoring was added once the dumptruck was removed.
