Next stop the general election in November for candidates

The number counting for the Aug. 18 primary election is complete and the results were to be certified Wednesday.

Now the real fun begins as the political season shifts into full swing.

The general election is Nov. 3 and there are plenty of races to keep residents of each city entertained.

Jim Flynn was on top in the primary race for Maple Valley City Council Position No. 2 with 47 percent and 1,424 votes as of Wednesday morning on the King County Elections Web site.

Bill Allison ran second with 977 votes and 32 percent.

The incumbent, Deputy Mayor Glenn Smith, was third with 611, 20 percent. He is out of the race with the top two advancing to the general election ballot.

Smith said he is supporting Allison.

About 27 percent of the registered voters in Maple Valley voted in the primary.

Two other Maple Valley City Council positions will be on the ballot in November, but neither were in the primary because only two candidates filed for the seats.

Erin Weaver is challenging incumbent David Pilgrim for Position No. 4

Victoria Laise Jonas, the incumbent, is facing a challenge from Stanette Marie Rose for Position No. 6

In the Black Diamond City Council race for Position No. 4 Jim Kuzaro came from off the pace to surge ahead of William Saas who had the early lead.

Kuzaro had 42 percent with 340 votes and Saas 40 percent with 325.

Paula Koch-Boyd ran third with about 17 percent and 136 votes.

About 32 percent of the registered voters cast a ballot in Black Diamond.

Kuzaro and Saas will square off for the general election.

The other City Council race in Black Diamond on the November ballot will be Geoff Bowie, the incumbent, facing a challenge from Craig Goodwin for Position No. 2.

Mayor Howard Botts is being challenged by Rebecca Olness for the mayor’s chair.

Reagan Dunn cruised to the top with nearly 73 percent, 24,400 votes in the County Council election for District No. 9 which includes Covington, Maple Valley, Black Diamond and the surrounding unincorporated areas.

He will be challenged by Beverly Harison Tonda who picked up 19 percent with 6,559 votes.

Third and out was Mark Greene with 7 percent, 2,415 votes.

About 27 percent of those registered voted.

For King County Executive Susan Hutchison rolled to the top with 33 percent, 110,033 and she will face Dow Constantine who took 89,812 votes and nearly 27 percent.

The race had about 32 percent vote in the county.
