Friends of the Cedar River Watershed is recruiting volunteers to work as naturalists during the salmon spawning season.

Naturalists help educate the public about the river and spawning salmon, including Chinook which are returning to the watershed in record numbers this year. Naturalists will begin their training Sept. 16 in preparation for spending three weekend days along the river, talking to salmon watchers.

More information about becoming a naturalist is available at naturalists@cedarriver.org and (206) 245-0143, said Charlotte Spang, a program coordinator for Friends of the Cedar River Watershed.

Prime viewing of the Cedar’s salmon action includes 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 11, 18, 19, 25 and 26 and Nov. 1. Information on suggested locations is available at (206) 245-0143, www.cedarriver.org and www.kingcounty.gov/salmon.
