Talk about learning to carpool at a young age.
Covington police received an auto theft report Aug. 31 after a 13-year-old boy took his mother’s car to drive a friend home.
Police Chief Kevin Klason said the teenager’s mother reported the vehicle stolen from their home, located on the 26000 block of 175th Avenue Southeast, that afternoon. The boy had returned the vehicle home prior to officers arriving at the scene.
Klason said the incident was not a “chargeable case” because the juvenile did not “permanently intend to deprive his mother of the car.” He added that the boy was not detained but that safety measures were discussed so that the incident didn’t occur again.
“He’s not the first kid to take mom and dads car for a joyride and won’t be the last,” Klason said.
