What Happened at the Metropolitan King County Council

At today’s Council meeting, Council members:
- Held for one week a motion declaring that it is county policy to establish a paid parental leave program for King County employees and directing the executive to develop and transmit a work plan for implementing a paid parental leave program and a report on the costs and benefits of implementing and providing a paid parental leave program (Motion 2015-0102).
- Unanimously adopted a motion relating to public transportation; requiring a report on the potential for senior citizens and persons with disabilities to apply for regional reduced fare permits (Motion 2015-0123).
- Unanimously approved an ordinance relating to King County District Court electoral boundaries for 2015 (Ordinance 2015-0155).
Introduction of ordinances and motions for Committee action:
- A motion adopting the youth action plan for King County (Motion 2015-0162). The motion was sent to the Committee of the Whole for discussion and possible action.
- A motion related to the transfer of retired vanpool vans to nonprofit organizations and local governments to meet the needs of low-income, elderly disabled and young county citizens (Motion 2015-0160). The motion was sent to the Transportation, Economy and Environment Committee for discussion and possible action.
- A motion related the Lower Duwamish waterway cleanup and the health of the communities adjacent to the Lower, Duwamish waterway (Motion 2015-0167). The motion was sent to the Transportation, Economy and Environment Committee for discussion and possible action.
