Saturday, Oct. 25 marks the fourteenth year that Maple Valley has participated in Make A Difference Day (MDDAY), the nation’s largest day of community service. For more than 20 years, USA WEEKEND Magazine, in collaboration with Points of Light, have headed this nationwide effort to recognize and celebrate neighbors helping neighbors, on the fourth Saturday in October.
MDDAY is a testament to the dream that anyone – regardless of age, location or resources – can accomplish amazing things when they take on the problems they see in their community.
Typically, Lake Wilderness Arboretum plans a number of projects in the gardens for MDDAY that bring together about 100 volunteers. The Maple Valleys Make A Difference Day committee has set up a Facebook fan page, http://www.facebook.com/pages/Maple-Valley-Make-A-Difference-Day-2014/118576365901, where anyone can learn more about how to volunteer for projects, including those at Lake Wilderness Arboretum. Or, contact the Arboretum directly for more information. Find out more about the national event by visiting www.MakeADifferenceDay.com.
The last free public docent tour of the year will be held on Saturday, Oct. 18.
