Maple Valley native Brad Habenicht will put his long driving skills to the test Monday.

Maple Valley native Brad Habenicht will put his long driving skills to the test Monday.

Habenicht, a long drive champion, will try to beat the record of 272 golf balls driven in an hour from 6-8 p.m. Aug. 27 at Washington National Golf Course, 14330 S.E. Husky Way, Auburn.

“I am excited about this event because the 18th hole is an amphitheater and people will be able to sit on the plaza right next to the pro shop and restaurant area and watch balls land and roll out,” Habenicht wrote in an email. “I have been training for this event, and it is brutal! My goal is to hit a ball every 10 seconds or so for the entire hour.”

The event, dubbed Drive for the Cure, will help his wife’s Susan G. Komen 3 Day team raise money.

Spectators can buy a random numbered square between 00 and 99 for $20

and what ever the final ball count over 300 yards is, the person with that number will win the first place prize of $ 250 cash. Second place is a new Taylor Made 2.0 Driver and third place is a two-hour long drive golf lesson with Habenicht.
