Maple Valley Food Bank plans to provide 600 backpack to school children | Donations needed

While children are out of school and enjoying summer break Maple Valley Food Bank and Emergency Services is preparing for back to school. Food bank staff are committed to providing backpacks to area children — who may otherwise go without — in kindergarten through 12th grade.

While children are out of school and enjoying summer break Maple Valley Food Bank and Emergency Services is preparing for back to school.

Food bank staff are committed to providing backpacks to area children — who may otherwise go without — in kindergarten through 12th grade.

The backpacks are filled with fresh, new school supplies which includes all the essentials for a positive start to the school year. This year volunteers are expecting about 600 backpack requests from families in Covington, Hobart, Maple Valley, Ravensdale and within the Tahoma School District boundaries.

Donation barrels and supply lists will be put out starting Friday, July 22, at various sites through the community. Monetary donations are also accepted.

To pick up a supply list visit the Maple Valley or Covington library branches, the Greater Maple Valley Community Center, Bank of America, Cedar Grove Composting, Covington MultiCare, Surfrider Coffee Co., City Perk, Key Bank, Outpatient Physical Therapy, Starbucks at Four Corners and Wilderness Village, Village Coffee or the food bank.
