Planning to go to the fishing derby this weekend?
Here is some important information to know before you head out to the eighth annual Opening Day Trout Fishing Derby, presented by the Greater Maple Valley-Black Diamond Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the city of Maple Valley and Maple Valley Rotary, which begins 5 p.m. Friday at Lake Wilderness.
Camp site registration begins at 5 p.m. Friday.
The first derby and fisherman’s breakfast prepared by Rotarians begins at 12:01 a.m.
Derby tickets cost $2 and are on sale until noon Saturday. Tagged fish tickets cost $5. Fish school is free to anglers under 12 and opens at 6 a.m.
Rotarians fire up the grill to cook up hamburgers and hot dogs at 6 p.m. Friday.
Line up at 11:30 a.m. Saturday to weigh caught fish.
Derby ends at noon Awards will be handed out at 12:15 p.m.
There are three ways to win a prize with a $2 derby ticket:
• Top 100. Catch one of the largest 100 trout from the lake. Fish from the pen don’t count.
• Get It Now. Prizes are available for those who do not wish to wait for awards to be handed out. Also where to get awards from the Fish School Pen.
• It’s Not Over Yet. Those who selected a Get It Now prize may also enter their derby ticket in this drawing for an additional 20 prizes.
The tagged fish, if caught, must be accompanied by a ticket. Mr. Wigglesworth is worth $300.
Participants must exit Lake Wilderness Park by dusk on Saturday.
