The city of Maple Valley’s annual Independence Day picnic will take place July 4 at Lake Wilderness Park. The day will include a fireworks show at 10 p.m. with musical accompaniment provided by the Maple Valley Youth Symphony.
Also included in the day will be a welcome from Mayor Allison, live music and dancing and family activities.
Family activities begin at 4 p.m. with free arts and crafts with the Camp Wild staff. The live band will take the stage at 5 p.m. Traditional picnic games will include a 3-legged race, gunny sack race, water balloon toss, parachute games and more.
Bakers can show off their skills in the Pie Baking Contest and over $400 in gift cards will be awarded to the winners of each division. There is no fee to enter and the pies must be homemade from scratch and have a fruit filling. Entrants can register for the contest either online at maplevalleywa.gov or in person at the Parks and Recreation offices before July 2.
The City of Maple Valley’s annual Independence Day picnic is presented this year by Fred Meyer. Other major support is from Good Chevrolet in Renton and Waste Management.
