A man believed to have been responsible for multiple burglaries was arrested in Covington Oct. 11 after allegedly attempting to break into a residence.

According to Covington Police Chief Kevin Klason, a homeowner was sleeping in his home located north of Walgreens when he heard the sound of glass breaking at around 11 a.m.

When he came downstairs he found a man in the backyard attempting to break in. The homeowner went outside and confronted the suspect in the front of his house, where there was a vehicle parked in the driveway with two people sitting in it.

Klason stated that two individuals then got out of the vehicle and fled along with the suspect. The homeowner called the police while chasing after the suspect. Several unincorporated officers who were near the scene responded. When they spotted a man they believed to be the suspect, they called out to him. The man started to run away, but he was eventually caught.

“It was really a good cooperative effort,” he said.

The man was later identified by the victim as the suspect.

There was no property loss.

The vehicle in the driveway was impounded, according to Klason, because they found in it what appeared to be proceeds from other burglaries committed in Maple Valley and several other cities.

An investigation is currently being conducted by a Covington detective. A search warrant has been obtained on the suspect’s home.

Klason stated the suspect had several outstanding felony warrants.

“He’s been on our radar off and on,” he said.
