A man was arrested by the King County Sheriff’s Office after he ended up into the Cedar River off Maple Valley Highway when he allegedly attempted to run away from deputies at around 4 p.m.

“Some guy jumped into the river that we were chasing,” said Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. John Urquhart. “I don’t know why we were chasing him.”

According to a member of the King County Sheriff’s Office, a warrant had been issued for the 27-year-old male. He was taken into custody after he had been in the Cedar River near Maple Valley Highway and the state Route 18 interchange for an indefinite period of time.

At least six or seven Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicles, a fire engine and aid car responded to the scene.

Urquhart expects to have more information on the incident in the morning.
