Longer rock blasting closure scheduled early next week over Snoqualmie Pass

Drivers need to plan for more than two hours of added travel time

Imagine blasting rock material 120 feet off the ground, with unpredictable amounts of debris falling down, right next to a major highway. That’s exactly what crews will be doing early next week on Interstate 90 over Snoqualmie Pass and drivers will need to plan for more than 2 hours of travel time.

On Monday, Sept. 17 the Washington State Department of Transportation and contractor crews will close the pass for an extended rock blasting closure at 6:30 p.m. from Hyak (milepost 54) to the Price Creek Sno-Park (milepost 61). A reopening time depends on the amount of time it takes to remove large pieces of debris and for crews to evaluate any damage to the highway.

The rock blasting closures scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 18 through Thursday, Sept. 20 will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Drivers should also plan for added travel time Monday through Friday due to increased construction activity and rolling slowdowns.

Just a reminder that the automated speed-enforcement cameras will be monitoring speeds through the I-90 work zone from milepost 54 to milepost 61 starting Monday, Sept. 17. Drivers traveling over 60 mph could be issued a $137 fine.
