The 5th Avenue Theatre has released its nominations for the 2012 High School Awards and productions at Kent and Tahoma schools have been recognized in many categories.
Each year, 5th Avenue Theatre evaluators attend musical theater productions at high schools throughout Washington state.
This year evaluators saw 93 productions.Ariel Archie of Kentridge was recognized with Special Honors: Student Achievement.Kentridge garnered nominations in the Outstanding Overall Musical Production, Outstanding Direction, Outstanding Choreography categories for its spring drama “Legally Blonde.”
In addition, Kentridge received honorable mention in Outstanding Costume Design.
Caelen Creaser, who played Elle Woods in “Legally Blonde,” was nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role.
Haley Bertelsen was nominated for her role as Paulette in the Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role category.
For her turn as Vivienne in “Legally Blonde,” Olivia Rogers was nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Featured Ensemble Role, while Brielle Creaser in the role of Brooke received honorable mention in that category.
Kentridge’s cast of “Legally Blonde” was also nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Chorus.Kentlake High was nominated for Outstanding Hair and Make-Up Design as well as received honorable mention in the Outstanding Music Direction, Outstanding Choreography, Outstanding Costume Design, and Outstanding Lobby Display categories for its production of “Beauty and the Beast.”Zachary Vermillion, who played Beast, was nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role.
A nomination nod in the Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Featured Ensemble Role went to Caitlin Callahan as Babette.
Kentlake’s cast of “Beauty and the Beast” was also nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Chorus.
Also, the cast received a nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble Group for the song “Silly Girls.”
Camera Chapman of Tahoma Junior High earned Special Honors: Student Achievement.Tahoma High was nominated for Outstanding Stage Crew for its spring production of “Into the Woods.”
Maddy Wellborn earned a nomination for her performance from “Into the Woods” of Milky White and Giant in the category of Outstanding Performance by an Actor or Actress.
Levi Palmer of Tahoma Junior High was recognized with honorable mention in the Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Featured Ensemble Role for his performance as Phineous Trout in “Willy Wonka, Jr.”
