Kent School District has been selected to be a member of Digital Promise’s League of Innovative Schools, a national coalition of education agencies committed to transforming teaching and learning in order to improve student achievement.
Digital Promise is a nonprofit organization authorized by Congress to advance breakthrough technologies for the improvement of education. Both a professional learning network and a hotbed for innovative educational practices, the League brings together educators, researchers, and entrepreneurs to demonstrate, evaluate, and replicate promising ideas. KSD joins 39 school districts in 24 states that serve nearly 3 million students.
“This is a great honor for our schools and for our community that has continuously supported advancing technology in teaching and learning in the Kent School District,” said Superintendent Dr. Edward Lee Vargas. “We’re excited about our partnership in this national coalition so we can benefit every one of our students as we prepare them for success in the 21st century knowledge economy.”
Digital Promise recognized KSD as a pioneering district among a competitive and national pool of applicants with school leaders committed to using technology to deliver results in the classroom. As a member of the League, KSD will have direct connections with top universities and entrepreneurs that support technological innovation in education.
Upon joining the League, members commit to sharing lessons learned, participating in national and regional forums, and partnering with research institutions, technology developers, and one another to deliver better results for students.
“The strength of the League of Innovative Schools is the aggregate experiences of its members,” said Karen Cator, President and Chief Executive Officer of Digital Promise. “By sharing their leadership, challenges and breakthroughs, members help educators across the country tackle the difficult work of improving the opportunity to learn for the nation’s students.”
Membership in the League of Innovative Schools is the second recognition of the summer for the District’s educational innovation. In June they were awarded the Digital Content & Curriculum Achievement Award as a K-12 district of its size for its “NextGen Learning Resources.”
