Leonora Noble has been named interim principal at Crestwood Elementary, according to Chris Loftis, executive director of communications for the Kent School District.
The decision was made by the school board Wednesday Aug. 24, as the search continues for a new principal.
Until then, Noble will assume the principal’s responsibilities. She will be supported by the school district and the school improvement team.
Noble received the Milken Family Foundation National Educator Award in 1998 for her work at Lister Elementary Magnet School.
“Lee has a long and impressive background in elementary education that began in the classroom then moved into building, district and college leadership levels across the Puget Sound region,” Loftis wrote in an email interview. “She comes to us with the highest of recommendations and her flexibility will serve us well as we continue to search for the right person to take on the role permanently.”
In the email, Loftis cited several difficulties that have delayed the hiring process.
“We have interviewed some wonderful candidates with impressive credentials but we simply have not been able to find the person that had the specific skill sets needed to take Crestwood to the next level of student achievement,” he said. “Our students, parents, and staff deserve the best leadership possible and we are determined to take the time to find the best possible match for the school’s needs.”
Crestwood Elementary’s first school day is Sept. 1.
