-Be careful when using a ladder. Make sure it is on firm and level ground. Consider having someone hold and stabilize the ladder when on it.

-Ensure that you and your ladder are not near any power lines. Look up before you raise your ladder to the roof.

-Use the correct type of Underwriter Laboratory approved lights for both inside and out.

-Check all wiring for damage. Replace with new strings of lights if necessary.

-Replace all broken or non-functioning lightbulbs.

-Do not overload your lights by stringing too many in a row or too many into an outlet. Read the manufacturer’s recommendations.

-Be careful to not damage wiring when hanging lights.

-Hang lights securely so the weather, kids, or animals cannot knock them down.

-Always shut off indoor lights when you leave your home.
