Help for road worriers

Road and emergency officials say two of the best ways to stay on top of winter travel conditions is to subscribe to the Regional Public Information Network (RPIN) and the King County Road Alert.

RPIN is described as a one-stop resource for news alerts from more than 75 government, transportation, utility, health and emergency response agencies serving King, Pierce and Snohomish counties. The system keeps the public informed about street and highway closures, weather and major transit disruptions. It also provides updates on emergencies and incidents. E-mail alerts and pager headlines are available.

King County Road Alert is a Web-based e-mail subscription service designed to notify the public about road closures or hazardous travel conditions in unincorporated areas of the county.
