The Green River College welding program, Issaquah Highlands Council, artEAST members and local artists have teamed up to present an exhibit, “Illuminate,” through Nov. 2.

The collaborative project – which includes paintings, collage, mixed media, sculptural and welded artwork – brought together 19 artists to create 3-D candelabra-inspired sculptures.

“While we came at the project from much different perspectives, we soon developed a trust in each other’s design sensibilities,” local ceramic artist Kimberly Wayne said in a media release from Green River College. “For instance, how does one attach glass to steel without shattering the glass in the welding process? Others taught me how to use the high speed saw to cut through the steel bars, a much different experience than using a thin wire to slice through my bag of clay. One welder with the brains and finesse of the finest surgeon advised with patience and know how on potential variations of our design.”

In addition to Wayne, participating artists include: Alexander Keyes, Deby Harvey, Elise Koncsek, Judy Thomas, Debbie Drllevich, Kristie Smith, Leslie Nan Moon, Robin Walker, Theresa Hennessy, Todd Lawson, Karen Abel, Greg Bartol, Judy Salas, Ed McCarthy, Larry Calkins, Anita Schuller, Wendy Ray, Patty Haller, Larry Calkins and Jim Matthew.

The “Illuminate” exhibit culminates with a closing reception and gala 6–8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at Blakely Hall at Issaquah Highlands, 2550 NE Park Drive. The event will feature food, drink, music and costumes in celebration of the Halloween season.
