Garbage, recycling, and yard waste service disrupted in Covington

Garbage, recycling and yard waste was not picked up in Covington today due to striking Republic Services employees.

“Due to an unresolved labor issue in another part of the country, some of our local union employees exercised their right not to cross an extended picket line,” Republic spokeswoman Anne Laughlin wrote in a statement. “It is unfortunate that the Teamsters have chosen to disrupt service to Puget Sound customers to support an unresolved Teamster issue in another part of the country.”

Covington was one of several cities affected by the strike. According to Republic, residents will be able to put up to twice the normal amount out on their next regularly scheduled collection day free of charge.

For more information and updates residents can go to www.RepublicServicesNW.com and click on their community in the drop-down tab at the center of the page. There they will find service updates throughout the day and evening.
