The economic recession has taken a toll on another project in Maple Valley.

According to City Manager David Johnston, the Fred Meyer shopping center planned for construction at Four Corners in 2009 will be delayed by about one year because of the economic recession.

Johnston said the Bellevue-based Powell Development Company told the city it plans to push the construction of the shopping center off to sometime in 2010 and open in 2011.

The city manager stated Powell has provided the city with “site plans for review”, but the applications for building permits will not be submitted until next year.

Johnston said the developer is also still in the process of signing up businesses for the other spaces in the center.

The shopping center will be located in the northeast section of Four Corners.
