Glacier Park Elementary is getting a new roof this summer.

While Tahoma School District officials have a laundry list of capital improvement projects they wish to tackle someday if a construction bond is passed in the near future — the next two years — the roof at Glacier Park couldn’t wait.

According to information provided by district spokesman Kevin Patterson, “The current roof has had a significant amount of leaks and repairs over the past years.”

Glacier Park is located in the south end of the district on 280th Street just blocks from Maple Valley Highway.

Seven roofing vendors were asked to submit bids.

The school board awarded a contract to Northwest Roof Service, Inc., for $151,600 and change for 30 year Owens Corning Duration shingles with algae block and 110 mph wind rating.

Work will be completed this summer with the cost of the project to be paid for out of the 2009-2010 budget.
