Firefighters from Maple Valley Fire and Life Safety, as well as from other area fire districts in the South King County Fire Training Consortium, will participate in live fire training on October 17 at 24012 SE 2876 Street in Maple Valley.

Live fire training is the use of a specially prepared house that is burned under very controlled conditions to allow firefighters to train in a realistic environment. All of the oil based materials such as tar paper and carpets will be removed prior to the exercise.

Live fire does produce some smoke. Kent Fire Department personnel recommend that anyone living in the area keep their windows shut between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Oct. 17.

South King County Fire Training Consortium is made up of the following fire departments:

Kent Fire Department Regional Fire Authority

City of SeaTac Fire Department

Maple Valley Fire Department

Tukwila Fire Department

Burien/Normandy Park Fire Department

North Highline Fire District

The consortium allows these departments to train to a common standard, train with the departments which they will work with at actual incidents, and reduce costs through economies of scale.
