Firefighters to deliver winter jackets to children in need of them

The following is a press release from the Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority.

The firefighters of Kent Local 1747 and police officers of the Kent Police Foundation are going to deliver new winter coats to three kindergarten classes at Park Orchard Elementary School in the Kent School District.

Operation Warm, in partnership with the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF), provides new winter coats to needy children throughout the country. Since the partnership began in 2012, almost a quarter of a million children have received a coat.

For many of these children, this is the first new coat they have ever owned. The pride they have in their coat can positively impact their school attendance, self-esteem, and overall health. All the students in the three classes will receive a coat, regardless of economic situation.

The firefighters of the Puget Sound RFA would like to thank the police officers of Kent for their donation and support of this program.

This will take place on Oct. 6 at 9 a.m. at Park Orchard Elementary School.
