At about 12:30 a.m., several units of the Kent Fire Department Regional Fire Authority were dispatched to a residential fire in the 13500 block of SE 251 Street. The call to 911 was made by a neighbor so the exact address was not initially available. However, that did not delay the crews from finding the house fire. The first unit on scene upgraded the situation to a working fire which prompted more resources to be added to the call. King County Medic One and the Zone Three Rehabilitation unit also responded to this call.

Despite the bitter cold weather and icy conditions, the fire crews were able to attack the fire and complete a search of the residence. Neighbors informed the fire crews that no one was inside but a search was conducted to be certain. Fighting the fire was made a bit more difficult due to the location of the fire, the damage to the structure, and the unique construction of the house. However, the fire fighters were able to work through those difficulties and overcome both the fire and the cold.

Parts of the residence sustained significant fire damage and there was smoke damage throughout the house. There is no damage estimate at this time. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No one was displaced and there are no injuries to report.
