A judge has set bail at $1 million for a 26-year-old man arrested for allegedly bludgeoning a 48-year-old man to death Sunday in Covington, according to Dan Donohoe, spokesperson for the King County Prosecutor’s Office.

The suspect waived his appearance in court at today’s bail hearing.

The deadline for a charging decision is Nov. 7.

Just after 5:30 p.m. Sunday a call came into 9-1-1 from a home in the 26800 block of 172nd Place Southeast in Covington — the city of Covington contracts with KCSO for police services. The caller told dispatchers the victim had been shot in the head in a camper behind the house and the suspect was still on the scene.

Officers with Covington Police as well as King County deputies responded to the scene where they detained four people for questioning, according to information provided by Sheriff’s Office, while the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit was called in to investigate.

Shortly before 11 p.m. Sunday, one of the four people detained for questioning, a 26-year-old man, was arrested.

An investigation at the scene by detectives revealed the victim had been bludgeoned to death, not shot as was originally reported by the 9-1-1 caller.

Detectives are still investigating the circumstances which led to the altercation prior to the victim’s death.
