Crews in Covington to begin debris cleanup Tuesday, Jan. 24

Covington’s maintenance crew will soon be transitioning from snow and ice removal to debris cleanup, which is expected to begin on Tuesday, Jan. 24.

The ice storm that swept across the Pacific Northwest has left an aftermath of debris on city streets and on private property throughout Covington.

Covington’s maintenance crew will soon be transitioning from snow and ice removal to debris cleanup, which is expected to begin on Tuesday, Jan. 24.

Crews will begin a sweep of every Covington street starting on the west side of the city, heading east. Due to the magnitude of debris the storm has caused, it may take two or three weeks for the cleanup to be complete.

Debris cleanup is one of the most time consuming and costly segments of recovering from a storm like this one. Due to the overwhelming costs, the city will only be able to conduct one debris cleanup sweep of the city. Any debris that has fallen in the city rights-of-way will be removed.

Debris that has fallen on private property will need to be properly disposed of by the property owner.

The city will not be able to come back to pick up debris after the sweep has occurred.

The city will post information to inform residents when local landfills open for free or reduced debris dumping.

Please check the city’s website at www.CovingtonWA.gov or the city’s Facebook page at www.Facebook.com/CityofCovington for that information.
