A 26 year-old Covington man was arrested and booked for investigation of assault on Wednesday night after an incident in the 26300 block of 191 Place Southeast in Covington.

According to King County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Sgt. Cindi West the alleged assault occurred around 8 p.m.

West cited an incident report in which witnesses said that the incident began when a 13-year-old boy’s soccer ball ended up on a neighbor’s property.

The neighbor, a 41-year-old man, kicked the ball further down the street

“The 13-year-old boy confronted the man with a baseball bat and swung the bat at him,” West wrote in an email. “The man took the bat from the boy and held him on the ground, yelling for his friend to call the police.”

At that point it was reported that the boy’s 26-year-old step father ran over and confronted the neighbor.

The 41-year-old then allegedly struck the stepfather with the bat three times before the stepfather took the bat from the neighbor and struck him once in the head.

“The man went to the ground with a severe head injury and was transported to Harborview with life-threatening injuries,” West wrote.

The stepfather was arrested and booked for investigation of assault.
