Lindsey Moore finished off a near-flawless run at Kentwood by leading the Conquerors to their first-ever state championship on the girls basketball court. Moore’s numbers – 15.5 points, 8 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 3.3 steals per game – were impressive, but the intangibles are what essentially separate her from the pack.

Moore’s a gamer; a complete gym rat who brought her teammates up with her. The 5-10 guard didn’t care who had the ball or who scored, but simply that Kentwood won.

And the Conks did that with precision, finishing the season 28-1.

The University of Nebraska-bound Moore was named the SPSL North Division MVP for hoops.

Moore signed with Nebraska in November during the early signing period.

Nebraska head coach Connie Yori had high praise for Moore last fall, according to the University of Nebraska women’s basketball site.

““Lindsey Moore is a classic floor leader,” Yori said. “I love her competitiveness, and we will look for her to help lead our team in the years to come.”

She also was a standout in track, clearing 5-7 on the high jump. The mark would have garnered third place at state, but instead Moore chose weeks into the season to focus on basketball.

It probably wasn’t a hard choice once she received the invitation in May to go to Colorado to try out for a spot on the USA Basketball Women’s U-19 squad.

Moore is among the country’s top 27 women’s basketball players in the U19 category who were invited to the try outs in Colorado Springs, Colo., May 14-17. Athlete invitations were extended by the USA Basketball Women’s Junior National Team committee, according to the team’s site, www.usabasketball.com.

She was selected as the Gatorade Washington High School Player of the Year and was a Parade Magazine Third-Team All-American this year. Moore led Kentwood’s girls basketball team to a final No. 2 national ranking.
