The Covington City Council and officials are taking a serious look into the future of the city’s downtown, and some interesting details are beginning to take shape.
Community Development Director David Nemens summarized the information collected from the two open house events. Community members, political leaders, business owners and developers gave the city staff opinions and ideas about the downtown plan.
Nemens said about 60 people came to the first open house and the second brought a more “diverse mix.”
The director said one of the positive notes from the meetings was an increased interest from property owners and potential developers.
Nemens said he has been contacted by two medical facilities and he was contacted by a “fairly large housing developer.”
The director said he was also contacted by “the senior vice president of Tarramare, the property owner for Safeway. He cautiously indicated he wanted to be involved. They wanted to let us know they are interested.”
Nemens said there is considerable interest being generated by the plan.
