The city of Covington is looking at the issue of parking and parking signs for the Timberlane community.

Residents in Timberlane have reported parking issues including parking in no parking zones and on both sides of the street, making it difficult to navigate and pull in and out of driveways.

An increasing number of these complaints and concerns about parking in Timberlane have spurred the city to consider new signage for the neighborhood.

City streets within the Timberlane were constructed at a time when codes and standards were at a different level than they are today.

The city’s Public Works Department is looking into providing better signage for parking as an alternative to the heavy costs of repainting curbs and maintaining landscaping, which is estimated to run about $100,000.

The King County Roads and Traffic Division has been commissioned by the city to evaluate the Timberlane neighborhood. King County will study and estimate the amount and cost of new signage – a more affordable option for the city’s limited budget.

Reports from the county are expected back in about two weeks.
