A family and community forum on Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases is scheduled at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 23 at The Weatherly Inn, 15101 S.E. 272nd St, Kent.

The featured speaker is Dr. James Leverenz is the featured speaker. Leverenz is an associate professor in the department of Neurology and Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Washington. He did his undergraduate and medical training at the University of Washington and his Neurology training at the Cornell Medical Center. He also did a fellowship in neuropathology at the University of Chicago.

Leverenz has been an investigator in the University of Washington Alzheimer’s disease Research Center for over 15 years and he now directs the education core for that center. He also directs the clinical research program for the Pacific Northwest Udall Center, which has a focus on the cognitive aspects of Parkinson disease. His research has focused on the clinical and pathological characteristics of a variety of diseases associated with dementia including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson, Lewy body dementia, and frontotemporal dementia.

This forum will be an opportunity to hear the latest progress of the research being conducted at the University of Washington.
